Ingle Farm's women's team's
inaugural game ended in a disappointing 8-1 loss
to Adelaide Uni.
However, the girl's cause was not helped
by injuries and the unavailability of some players, which meant we
started the game with 10 and were reduced to nine in the second half.
Despite the adversity, the girls put in a great
effort to be only 4-0 down at half time after constant attacks by the
Adelaide Uni forwards.
The score could have been well into double figures
if it weren't for the brave goalkeeping of Lydia and the tracking back of Kylie
and Renee.
Heather was a work horse in the middle of park,
making lots of runs and putting in some heavy challanges - most of
them fair!
Heather was rewarded for her efforts, when the
coach/team manager/registra/linesman pushed her up front in the second half.
Within two minutes, a long kick from our
goalkeeper Lydia - she can kick further than twinkle toes Francken - split the
Uni defence, for Heather to run from the halfway line, go one-on-one with the
keeper and slot the ball home for the girls' first goal for the season.
The Lydia Long Bomb began to give the Adelaide Uni
defence a bit of trouble, with Heather getting a couple more oppitunites to go
one-on-one with keeper, but to no avail.
Despite the score, there were a lot of positives
from the match, especially from the six girls playing their first ever
game.
We are looking forward to seeing more
improvement next week when we travel to local rivals Para Hills East.
Final score: Adelaide University 8 Ingle Farm 1.
FFSA WOMENS SUNDAY DIVISION 5
Round 2 - Para Hills East vs Ingle Farm
Sunday, April 18, 2010
Para Hills Oval, Para Hills
By Rob Greenwood
It was a great turn around by the girls this week after last week's defeat, as
they secured their first point of the season with a draw against Para Hills East
at Para Hills Oval.
The girls got over the midweek distraction of why you
don't win chocolate when we spin the chocolate wheel for the 100 club, to take
on our local rivals Para Hills East.
East started the better of the
two, putting the Farm defence under constant pressure. But strong defending by
Kylie, Renee, Cate, Rayleen and Franny held firm, with a little help from the
crossbar and Lydia, who again made some great one on one saves in
goals.
Carly was forced off the pitch after 15 minutes with a rolled ankle,
after a poorly timed scissor tackle by an East player.
First gamer Nicole was
running to all four corners of the ground, while amazingly Renee was still
running after already completing a half marathon in the morning.
Heather was
again impressive in midfield and took control of the centre of the park,
despite being on the recieving end of some heavy challenges.
East managed to
score a lucky goal from a rebound after a save by Lydia presented an East player
with the easiest of tap ins - even Jacki Tran couldn't have missed this one. If
it wasn't for some fine goalkeeping by Lydia however, East would have already
been a few goals up.
Nicole was almost rewarded for her efforts when she was
put through on goal. Her shot beat the keeper, but narrowly cleared the cross
bar.
Half time: Para Hills East 1 - Ingle Farm 0.
For the second half,
Heather was pushed up front and within two minutes of the restart, some good
work by Kirsten and Renee in the middle, sent her on a run.
Heather got
past two players before firing an unstoppable shot into the top corner from 25
yards, to level the score up at 1-1. The cracking strike also made it two goals
in two games for Heather.
From there, Ingle Farm were the better team in the
second half, putting lots of pressure on East and constantly breaking down their
attacks.
It was a great effort by the girls, who were rewarded with a well
deserved point. More performances of this level and surely their first of the
season can't be too far away.
Final score: Para Hills East 1 - Ingle Farm
1.
