ROUND 1
ADELAIDE PUMAS VS INGLE FARM THOMAS TURNER RESERVE, VALLEY VIEW
SUNDAY, APRIL 2, 2006
Ingle
Farm impressively began season 2006 with a solid win against Adelaide
Pumas away at Thomas Turner Reserve today. The visiting team outplayed
the Division 2 newcomers, defeating them 5 - 1 in perfect conditions at
Valley View.
Farm
opened the game well. A fine move forward allowed Ricky Simpson to set
up Alby Lynn, who let fly from 20 yards to assume the lead in the 7th
minute. 1 - 0 to Farm.
However
just 2 minutes later, Pumas equalized when their striker narrowly beat
the Farm offside trap and then put the ball past Farm keeper Colin
Smith. 1 - 1.
In the 25th minute, Chris Ennis' diagonal ball set up Alby Lynn who easily beat the Puma's keeper for his second. 2 - 1.
New
signing Fernando Lara soon got into the game and set up several
opportunities for Farm after the Puma's reply. The midfield was
combining well during the 1st half, Leon Hannessen had a magnificent 35
yard strike saved in the 30th minute by the Puma's keeper, while
Brendan Altus and Martin Lara were working hard to set up the strikers.
Lynn had a golden opportunity late in the half for his hat trick, however his header went just over the crossbar.
Halftime : Adelaide Pumas 1, Ingle Farm 2.
After
the break, Farm took control of the match. The visitors scored three
goals in 10 minutes that knocked the wind out of the home team.
Club
veteran, Brendan Altus, bundled the ball into the net for Farm's third
in the 55th minute, after some good work from Ricky Simpson. 3 - 1.
In the 59th minute, Alby Lynn's sound touch set up Simpson to lob over the Puma's keeper for Farm's 4th goal.
4 - 1.
Simpson then put in a shot that deflected into Puma's goal to make the scoreline 5 - 1 to Farm.
Farm were well on top after the break and were unlucky several times late in the game as the team continued to attack.
The
first team featured three sets of brothers in it's first team (i think
for the first time ever?) David Ennis & Chris Ennis; Anthony
Staltari & Mario Staltari; Martin Lara & Fernando Lara who were
all very good today for Farm. This impressive group did everything from
keeping things tight at the back to continually setting up play up
forward. These boys performed admirably for the club today.
With head coach, Paul Simpson absent, Alan Leadbeater was Farm's
guiding eye as he took charge of the first team this week. Noticeably
pleased with the result after the game, Leadbeater said "It was a great
team effort today. The hardest job was trying to pick just ONE best
player."
The win sees Ingle Farm leading the Division 2 ladder by goal difference after Round 1.
Final Score : Adelaide Pumas 1, Ingle Farm 5
ROUND 2
INGLE FARM vs SOUTHERN KNIGHTS WALKLEY PARK, INGLE FARM
SUNDAY, APRIL 9, 2006
Ingle
Farm made it 2 / 2 wins in Division 2 by overcoming gritty Southern
Knights at Walkley Park in its first home match of the season today.
The home team fought back late in the second half to gain the
advantage, and win the match 3 - 1. Ricky Simpson's stunning
87th-minute strike set up the win late in the second half.
The
match was evenly poised early in the first half. Farm were having
trouble penetrating the Knights defence, while the visitors were making
breakaway attacks resulting in several chances themselves.
However,
Knights looked shaky at the back with some clearances being low and
misdirected, while Farm's impressive defence looked rock-solid.
In
the 35th minute, Ingle Farm struck first when Alby Lynn set up
hard-working David Ennis who hammered home the ball from 15 yards.
Ingle Farm 1, Southern Knights 0.
Half Time: Ingle Farm 1, Southern Knights 0
The
second half began with Farm's Alby Lynn taking on the Knights defence
and narrowly missing from a tight angle in the 48th minute.
Knights
appeared to fight their way into the match after this miss. The
visitors enjoyed a fine 15 minute spell as they lifted looking for an
equalizer.
Knight's
equalizer eventually came in the 72nd minute when David Ennis' clumsy
challenge was adjudged to be inside Farm's 18 yard box resulting in a
penalty to the visitors. The spot kick was well put away, 1 - 1.
Farm
responded with a wave of attacking moves after the goal from Knights.
In the 80th minute, Torsten Rutter was unlucky when he headed the ball
onto the crossbar after some good work from the right, then just 4
minutes later, Rutter hit the upright after finding some room inside
Knight's 18 yard box.
Despite
the near misses, Farm did not give up. Martin Lara, Barry Fitzharris
and Brendan Altus became more involved as the home teams chances
increased.
In
the 87th minute, a free kick was earned for Farm 25 yards out from
Knight's goal. Ricky Simpson stepped up to dramatically smash the free
kick home with a magnificent shot with only minutes remaining in the
match. 2 - 1 to Farm.
Then in injury time, Rutter put the result beyond doubt when he found
himself one-on-one with the keeper and tucked the ball away
impressively. Ingle Farm 3 Southern Knights 1.
Coach
Paul Simpson later said of the teams performance "We were slow off the
mark, but credit our players with this hard-fought win. Congratulations
must go to Southern Knights for making it a competitive game."
The win sees Ingle Farm remain undefeated after the opening two rounds.
Final Score : Ingle Farm 3, Southern Knights 1
ROUND 3
BOSNA VS INGLE FARM FAWK RESERVE
SUNDAY, APRIL 23, 2006
Ingle
Farm had another fine away win today when they defeated winless Bosna
5-2 at Fawk Reserve. In the perfect conditions, the visitors outclassed
their opponents from the start and were well worthy of taking home the
3 points.
Farm
opened the match sharply. In the 5th minute Mario Staltari's fine cross
found Ricky Simpson who headed the ball home easily from 10 yards. 1-0.
Torsten
Rutter missed two opportunities to extend Farm's lead in the opening 20
minutes as Farm dominated the early play. Bosna were struggling, and
their linesman knew it, as he seemed to flag Farm for offside at any
opportunity. Farm's strikers were becoming frustrated but held their
nerve well in the difficult circumstances.
Farm's patience paid off in the 35th minute when Martin Lara accurately headed home Farm's second goal from the far post. 2-0.
Five
minutes later, Torsten Rutter made amends for his earlier misses when
the striker turned a Bosna defender and hammered the ball into the net.
3-0 to Farm.
However
right on half time, Bosna were awarded a free kick on the edge of the
18 yard box and made Farm pay with the resulting free kick beating Farm
keeper Colin Smith.
Halftime: Bosna 1, Ingle Farm 3.
After
the break, Bosna pulled another goal back - once again from a free
kick. The impressive Bosna player who scored the first freekick,
repeated his effort convincingly beating the Farm keeper again. Bosna 2
Ingle Farm 3.
Bosna enjoyed their best period of the match after this effort. The home team lifted as Farm battled to keep their lead.
However
Farm midfielders David Ennis and Barry Fitzharris got involved in more
forward play, while Alby Lynn was introduced for Martin Lara and
combining with Brendan Altus, Farm steadied. Torsten Rutter was again
unlucky when his shot struck the upright in the 72nd minute.
Brendan
Altus put in a fine cross in the 80th minute to set up Ricky Simpson
who guided the ball into the net. This goal gave Farm some breathing
space after a tense half hour. 4-2 to Farm.
The route was completed in the 85th minute when Ricky Simpson's clever lob set up Rutter to score Farm's 5th goal.
So the match ended as a 5-2 away win for Farm, certainly a fine result.
Head
coach, Paul Simpson, said of Farm's performance "The team had good
structure and kept good shape during the match. There were some good
performances from certain individuals."
With
Para Hills East and West Beach both losing their respective fixtures
today, Farm go to the top of the league with a three point gap to the
second placed team.
Final Score : Bosna 2, Ingle Farm 5
ROUND 4
PARA HILLS EAST VS INGLE FARM PARA HILLS OVAL
SUNDAY, APRIL 30, 2006
Ingle
Farm's dream start to the season came to an abrupt halt today as Farm
were smashed 5-1 by local rivals Para Hills East. Farm lead the match
early but were no match for the experienced East boys who were switched
on and worthy of their win.
Farm
opened the match well on top, they dominated possession and created
chances. East however were unlucky not to snatch the lead in the 8th
minute when on the break a goal was disallowed for offside.
Farm responded two minutes later when Torsten Rutter was set up by a fine Dave Ennis cross to head Farm into the lead. 1-0.
However
Rutter soon became the villian for Farm as the striker missed three
good chances in the next 10 minutes as the ball was lobbed over the
crossbar repeatedly.
East
made Farm pay for its innacuracy when a shot from 18 yards found its
way past Farm keeper Colin Smith in the 25th minute. 1-1.
Disappointingly,
Farm conceded a soft second goal when a free kick was awarded to East
25 yards out from goal. Farm's disoraganized, pathetic effort at
forming a wall resulted in the East player having a clear shot at the
Farm goal. 2-1 to East.
Halftime: Para Hills East 2, Ingle Farm 1
After
the break, and with the score at 2-1, Farm were denied an opportunity
to score when the East keeper came charging out of goal, only to
misjudge the bounce of the ball and punch the ball 30 yards out from
goal. The referee should have sent East's keeper off for this (he was
clearly their last defender) however, instead he booked the keeper and
awarded Farm a free kick, much to Farm's players and coach's disgust.
Things
did not improve later in the second half for laclustre Farm. In the
60th minute, East scored their third goal from a corner when an
unmarked East player had a free header from 6 yards. 3-1.
Minutes
later East scored their 4th as Farm were caught flat footed at the back
as a East player headed a ball square for an easy tap in to their
striker. 4-1.
Martin
and Fernando Lara were introduced mid way through the second half -
both trying hard to turn the game, but, clearly the horse had already
bolted.
In
the 90th minute, East rubbed more salt into Farm's wounds finding a
fifth goal as an unmarked player placed his shot past Farm's keeper.
Farm
had little cohesion and seemed to be a team that housed many
individuals as things went sour for the visitors after the impressive
opening minutes. Heads had dropped before half time and the intensity
never lifted after the break.
Para Hills East
seemed to be more switched on than their opponents. Most obvious was
their finishing which made Farm look second-rank.
Disappointed Farm coach Paul Simpson later praised East, "Well done to Para Hills East and thanks for the lesson," he said.
East
jump above Farm on goal difference to lead SAASL Division 2, as Farm
drop to second position, just above Limnos on goal difference.
Final Score : Para Hills East 5, Ingle Farm 1
ROUND 5
ADELAIDE LIMNOS VS INGLE FARM GRANGE SPORT COMPLEX
SUNDAY, MAY 7, 2006
Ingle
Farm went back to the top of Division 2 with a convincing 6-0 drubbing
of 3rd-placed Adelaide Limnos in windy conditions at League
Headquarters, Grange. Torsten Rutter scored a fine hat-trick while
Ricky Simpson netted two for Farm to help the team to an impressive
away win.
Limnos
kicked off in the first half backed by a strong breeze to the eastern
end. Conditions were difficult for Farm's defence, as Limnos pushed to
open the scoring. Farm's defense held firm and rebounded well with
Anthony Staltari, Mario Staltari and Chris Ennis standing out for Farm
in the tough conditions.
Limnos
had no answer to Farm's impressive midfield during the first half. Farm
dominated possession during the first half with some fine performances
in particular from David Ennis, Fernando Lara and Barry Fitzharris.
Farm's
good play was rewarded in the 20th minute when David Ennis accurately
crossed for Torsten Rutter to head the ball home. 1-0 to Farm.
Even
with the strong wind assisting, disappointing Limnos managed only
several shots on goal that Farm keeper Colin Smith had little trouble
dealing with.
Halftime: Adelaide Limnos 0, Ingle Farm 1
Farm
in the second half had the strong wind behind them. The visitors pushed
to extend their lead early in the second half, spraying several chances
in the blustery conditions.
In
the 65th minute, hard-working Torsten Rutter smashed home his and
Farm's second goal from the far post - giving the visitors an ominous
advantage midway through the second half.
2-0 to Farm.
In
the 70th minute, unlucky work-horse Martin Lara was replaced by Alby
Lynn, who came on to no doubt give Farm more drive up forward. The move
soon paid dividends as Lynn was a key figure of Farm's next four goals
in the final 20 minutes.
The goal rush began in the 73rd minute when David Ennis put in a terrific cross that found
well-positioned Ricky Simpson. 3-0.
Crusading
Farm midfielder David Ennis further destroyed Limnos three minutes
later when he took on two defenders in an impressive drive forward that
ended with a perfect finish.
4-0 to Farm.
Three
minutes later Rutter intercepted some lazy Limnos defending which set
up Ricky Simpson - who finished well from 15 yards. 5-0.
Farm were awarded a penalty in the 89th minute when Rutter was brought
down just inside the 18 yard box. Farm's impressive striker stepped up
to put his penalty away for Farm. 6-0.
"Very
encouraging." said head coach Paul Simpson of Farm's big win. "The boys
showed a lot of character after last weeks defeat."
Adding
gloss to Farm's result is the fact that 4 out of Farm's opening 5
rounds have been away fixtures. Next round's West Beach match will
complete a horror run of fixtures where 5 out of the 6 opening rounds
have been played away from Walkleys Park.
Final Score : Adelaide Limnos 0, Ingle Farm 6
ROUND 6
WEST BEACH VS INGLE FARM LOCKLEYS OVAL
SUNDAY, MAY 21, 2006
Ingle
Farm squandered a 2-goal advantage to draw with 2nd placed West Beach
away at Lockleys Oval today. West Beach equalized with ten minutes
remaining in the match after Farm had been reduced to 10 men in the
75th minute.
Farm,
depleted for this match by the losses of David Ennis (injured hand,)
Alby Lynn (cruise) and Mario Staltari (suspended) were bolstered by
returning Anthony Martini, Leon Hannassen, Dave Bailey and Peter Bria
who were all resuming after lengthy spells.
The
match began with West Beach on top. The home team created more chances
in the opening 20 minutes, putting Farm's makeshift defence under
pressure.
Farm
were forced to defend as Westies peppered the goal. The home team were
unlucky not to take the lead in the 23rd minute when a shot hit the
post.
Five
minutes later Farm answered as they stole the lead on a break. Anthony
Martini's fine run opened up West Beach as he combined with Ricky
Simpson to score a magnificent goal from 20 yards. 1-0 to Farm.
West
Beach were unlucky in the 40th minute when they had a goal disallowed
for interfering with Farm's keeper after a slight fumble.
However
minutes later Farm extended its lead when Fernando Lara set up leading
scorer Torsten Rutter who made no mistake one-on-one with Beach's
keeper. 2-0 to Farm.
Halftime: West Beach 0, Ingle Farm 2
Ten minutes into the second half, West Beach introduced big Danny McCombie into the match.
McCombie's presence up front had an almost immediate impact as Beach
scored from a header after a corner was accurately delivered. West
Beach 1, Ingle Farm 2.
In
the 75th minute Barry Fitzharris was cruely sent off after a second
yellow card for the visitors leaving Farm an uphill task to keep its
lead. Fitzharris had been playing well for Farm before a reckless
challenge resulted in his early dismissal.
West
Beach dominated the remaining play against Farm's 10 men. Constant
pressure finally paid dividends for the home team in the 80th minute
when Westies found an equalizer after a scramble in Farm's 18 yard box.
2-2.
A
fine late run by Rutter set up Farm midfielder Martin Lara with a
chance to score a late winner for the visitors. Lara's finish was
disappointing however as the ball was sprayed well wide of the target.
Westies
Danny McCombie then had two chances to finish Farm in the dying seconds
of the match. In the 89th minute the unmarked forward had his shot
tipped over the crossbar by Farm keeper Colin Smith; then just a minute
later McCombie sprayed his far post shot wide as an open goal beckoned.
Farm's Head Coach, Paul Simpson, later said "It was disappointing
throwing away a 2-goal lead, but one point away from home is better
than none."
Farm remain on top of the league on goal difference after the result, while West Beach drop to 4th position.
Final Score : West Beach 2, Ingle Farm 2
ROUND 7
INGLE FARM vs FULHAM WALKLEY PARK
SUNDAY, MAY 28, 2006
Ingle Farm enjoyed their 5th win of the season when they solidly won 3-1 over 5th placed Fulham today at Walkley Park.
Farm
included David Ennis, who was back after injury and regained Mario
Staltari who was back after suspension. Peter Bria was sent back to the
Reserves while Barry Fitzharris was suspended for this fixture.
Farm opened the scoring 5 minutes in when David Ennis set up Mario Staltari who put the ball away from 6 yards. 1-0 to Farm.
However 3 minutes later Fulham replied as a weak Farm clearance was seized upon and put away from 10 yards out. 1-1.
The score remained 1-1 until half time.
After
the break, Fulham were unlucky as they hit the crossbar with a long
range shot. The rebound then fell to a Fulham player who killed yet
another koala with his goal attempt.
Farm
regained the lead in the 70th minute when Anthony Staltari set up
Torsten Rutter who made no mistake from 10 yards. 2-1 to Farm.
Ten
minutes later Farm extended their lead to 3-1. Torsten Rutter was taken
down by the Fulham keeper inside the box, a penalty being awarded.
Ricky Simpson put the spot kick away for Farm.
Five
minutes from the end, a Fulham midfielder was shown a red card for a
shocking challenge on Rutter. While he did the striker no damage, the
Fulham player was shown a straight red.
Reasonable
performance from the 1st team today. The team did enough to win the
match against average opposition. Good performances came from Martin
Lara, Torsten Rutter, Mario Staltari and David Ennis.
The win kept Farm on top of the league - 1 point leaders over East after 7 rounds.
Final Score: Ingle Farm 3, Fulham 1
ROUND 8
MACEDONIA vs INGLE FARM BRAHMA LODGE FOOTBALL CLUB
SUNDAY, JUNE 4, 2006
Ingle
Farm succumbed to lowly Macedonia Utd today at Brahma Lodge in
argueably its worst result of the season so far. The deflating 1-0 loss
knocked Farm off the top of the ladder, nearly half-way into the season.
Farm
started the match well on top. They dominated possession and created
all the chances as Macedonia were being found out all over the park.
Torsten Rutter started well for Farm and he was unlucky in the 30th
minute when his 25 yard shot hit the crossbar.
Brendan
Altus, Barry Fitzharris and Leon Hannessen were all playing well in the
midfield for Farm while Mario and Anthony Staltari were playing well
from the back.
However letting the visitors down was its finishing as shots were hit
wide of the target or straight at Macedonia's keeper. This has been the
teams downfall too many times this season in crunch games, when they
have needed goals.
Farm
was punished for its inaccuracy in the 42nd minute when Macedonia
undeservingly took the lead. On one of their few attacks of the half,
the ball deflected onto Hannessen's arm inside Farm's 18 yard box,
resulting in a penalty to Macedonia. The spot kick hit the net, 1-0 to
Macedonia.
Halftime: Macedonia 1, Ingle Farm 0.
After the break Farm tried to step up the pace. The visitors dominated possession as Macedonia were chasing shadows.
Sadly
Farm were failing up front. The continual breakdown of play in its
forward third was taking its toll on the players as urgency and
frustration set in. Anthony Martini and Chris Ennis were introduced
with 25 minutes remaining in an attempt to increase scoring
opportunities.
In
the 75th minute it appeared Farm had been thrown a lifeline when the
referee awarded them a penalty after a Maco defender hand-balled. The
resulting spot kick was saved, only to be re-taken, and the Maco keeper
yellow carded. The re-take sadly hit the crossbar and was cleared by
Maco's defense.
Farm
had about 10 corners and 10 other shots in the final half an hour, but
they could not get the ball past Macedonia's outstanding keeper. Time
and time again he thwarted Farm by plucking the ball effortlessly off
the goal line. Argueably he was Macedonia's only individual winner on
the day.
Going by
the amount of chances it created, Farm can consider themselves unlucky.
However it is the first time this season Ingle Farm failed to score in
a match. Good games came from Leon Hannessen, Brendan Altus, Torsten
Rutter and the Staltari boys.
The unexpected loss has removed Farm from the top of the table after 8 Rounds. Farm now trail Para Hills East by two points.
Final score: Macedonia 1, Ingle Farm 0
ROUND 9
INGLE FARM vs MODBURY VISTA WALKLEY PARK
SUNDAY, JUNE 18, 2006
Ingle
Farm were drowned out by boring Modbury Vista at its home ground today.
The loss is Farm's 3rd in its past 6 league matches.
Farm
started well creating more chances during the first half, however had
chances thwarted by Modbury Vista's outstanding keeper.
In
the 38th minute, Vista earned a free kick 20 yards out from Farm's
goal. The resultng kick found the top corner of the net and Farm were
behind 1-0.
The
second half looked no better for Farm as Vista pushed back behind the
ball and easily held out the home team for the entire second half.
Farm
had few winners on the day. Their midfield was beaten, its strikers
struggled to gain the ascendancy and the defence leaked a soft goal.
Farm
Head Coach, Paul Simpson later said "It was a very disappointing
result, but we still continue to play good passing soccer."
Farm
have now dropped from 1st to 3rd after two losses in a row in the
league. Farm trail Para Hills East by 3 points, and Vista by two.
Final score: Ingle Farm 0, Modbury Vista 1
ROUND 10
INGLE FARM vs ADELAIDE PUMAS WALKLEY PARK SUNDAY, JUNE 25th, 2006
Ingle
Farm fought back to snatch an important home result against
second-bottom side Adelaide Pumas at Walkley Park today. The
entertaining match was full of drama as the result went down to the
final minute before Farm snatched the winner.
Farm
opened well on top. In the 8th minute fine work from Alby Lynn found
Torsten Rutter who laid the ball off for Farm captain Brendan Altus to
smash a swerving shot home from 25 yards. 1-0 to Farm.
Pumas fought back as a rocket header was well saved by Farm keeper, Colin Smith in the 20th minute.
Marty
Lara, Barry Fitzharris, Alby Lynn, Torsten Rutter and Dave Ennis were
enjoying a good first half for Farm. The home team was well on top and
soon extended their lead.
In
the 36th minute Farm made a fine move forward that set up their second
goal. Dave Ennis found Marty Lara, who passed to Rutter who found Alby
Lynn on the far post who hammered the ball home from 12 yards. 2-0 to
Farm.
Two minutes later Lynn returned the favour to Rutter as he set up Farm's top scorer for Farm's third goal. 3-0 to Farm.
However
Farm conceded a goal right on half time when the defence failed to
clear a corner and Pumas put the ball into the bottom corner. 3-1.
Half
Time: Ingle Farm 3, Adelaide Pumas 1. Pumas provided the half time
entertainment as they appeared to implode on the far side of the pitch.
During their half time team talk, their coach stormed off in his car,
players were yelling and cursing each other... not to mention at the
coach.. it was all quite amusing for Farm's spectators during the
break.
After the
break, Farm stupidly were reduced to 10 men in the 50th minute after a
player was shown a straight red after a melee with the pumped up
visitors.
Pumas pulled a goal back 10 minutes later as their player got in behind Farm's defence and finished well. 3-2 to Farm.
However Pumas also had a player sent off in the 70th minute when a player was booked for a second time in the match.
In
the 80th minute Pumas stunned Farm with an equalizer as their
loud-mouthed, sooky No. 8 scored a good goal from 15 yards. The Pumas
striker, who appears to suffer severely from "little man syndrome,"
seemed more interested in argueing with spectators in the final 20
minutes as he took the ball from the net and took it to the Farm crowd.
3-3.
But didn't
that Pumas striker receive a hearty send off from the home supporters
when in the 89th minute Farm stole the winner. Anthony Ragazzo was
overlapped by big Chris Ennis who cut the ball back perfectly for
brother Dave to put the ball away from 6 yards. 4-3 to Farm.
Farm
had escaped with a win. Farm Head Coach, Paul Simpson later said "Both
teams showed great character coming back the way they did." Simpson
added that "It was good to get another 3 points into the bank."
Simpson's best players included hard-working trio Marty Lara, Barry Fitzharris and Dave Ennis.
The win moved Farm up to 2nd spot on the ladder. The team trail Para Hills East by three points.
Final Score: Ingle Farm 4, Adelaide Pumas 3.
ROUND 11
SOUTHERN KNIGHTS vs INGLE FARM GALLOWAY RD, O'SULLIVAN BEACH
SUNDAY, JULY 2nd, 2006
Ingle
Farm's mid-season slump continued yesterday with its third loss in four
matches as it succumbed to 5th-placed Southern Knights away at
O'Sullivan Beach. Farm's topsy-turvey season appears to be spiraling
into a season of fizz, as the gap widens at the top of the table.
No
doubt it was an uphill task for Farm to travel down South and bring
home the biscuits against the vastly improved Knights, however a
committed team, which set out to win the league at the start of the
season, will need to win such matches in trying conditions, to succeed
this season.
Knights started the match well on top furiously attacking Farm who were
battling to keep the home team out. Only solid defending and some good
saves kept Farm in it.
After
25 minutes, Knights opened the scoring. Knight's unmarked striker got
in behind Farm's defense and beat the keeper one-on-one. 1 - 0 to
Knights.
Farm's
midfield tried to lift the team after the goal. Brendan Altus was
winning the hard balls while Ricky Simpson moved the ball forward well.
However Farm rarely tested the Knights keeper during the first half.
Reasonable
first half performances came from Farm's Dave Ennis, Marty Lara and
Anthony Staltari, Altus and Simpson, however it was a disappointing
team performance that made few inroads into Knights half.
Halftime: Southern Knights 1, Ingle Farm 0.
After
the break, both teams had chances to score. In the 47th minute Knights
narrowly missed an opportunity, while Dave Ennis fired a shot that
narrowly missed for Farm.
In
the 66th minute Farm finally struck. A free kick was cleverly headed
down by Chris Ennis that found striker Torsten Rutter who finished well
from 6 yards. 1 - 1.
The
goal seemed to sting the Knights as Farm lifted all over the park. Farm
missed some good opportunities in the next 10 minutes which proved to
be costly.
Farm's
Leon Hannessen narrowly missed the target when his bullet header went
just wide of the post, a half chance that fell to Rutter was not taken
from 12 yards and Dave Ennis missed Farm's best chance, one-on-one with
the keeper, sadly Ennis miss-hit his shot from 10 yards out..
However
against the run of play the referee awarded Knights a controversial
penalty when the home team's striker clashed with Farm's keeper in a
50/50 ball just inside the box.
The
decision seemed harsh on Farm, however the referee deemed keeper Colin
Smith's challenge to be a foul. The resulting spot kick was hit high
into Farm's net. 2 - 1 to Knights.
Farm had been kicked in the guts again. Heads dropped as the complexion of the game suddenly changed.
Daniel
Giorgetti was introduced with 20 minutes to go for his first appearance
at first-team level. The young striker acquited himself well during the
match, even coming close to scoring for the 1st team with a half-chance
in the 77th minute.
However
things did not improve for Ingle Farm when in the 82nd minute a
disgraceful goal was let in from a corner after the ball was misjudged
badly. 3 - 1 to Knights.
In
the 89th minute, Rutter scored again for Farm - bringing the score back
to 3 - 2. But it was too little too late for the visitors.
Frustrated
Paul Simpson sent out an ominous warning for Farm players when he later
said that he was "Sick of conceding sloppy goals."
ROUND 12
INGLE FARM vs BOSNA WALKLEY PARK
SUNDAY, JULY 9th, 2006
Ingle
Farm had a confidence-boosting win over bottom team Bosna at Walkley
Park today. Alby Lynn was Farm's star in the home win today, the
utility had a hand in all Farm's goals - setting up two for team mates
and striking twice himself.
Farm started out well on top. Bosna looked very average. Farm's
midfield gained early control while Farm's defence looked to have the
Bosna strikers measure.
In
the 10th minute, some inspiring Alby Lynn hard work cleverly set up
Mario Staltari who blasted the ball home from 12 yards. 1 - 0 to Farm.
Lynn
played a part in Farm's second goal when in the 35th minute his shot
could only be parried after which Leon Hannessen stepped up to blast
home his first goal for the club. 2 - 0 to Farm.
Farm
had few passengers during the first half. Good performances came from
Lynn, Mario Staltari, Chris Ennis, Martin Lara, Leon Hannessen, Brendan
Altus and Anthony Staltari.
Halftime: Ingle Farm 2, Bosna 0.
Farm
extended their lead in the 65th minute through the irrepressible Lynn.
A magnificent 40 yard run on the ball past two defenders ended with a
fine finish from 8 yards. 3 - 0 to Farm.
Daniel
Giorgetti was substituted on minutes later and almost immediately
scored. A determined strong run by Simpson found the young striker,
whose sweeping shot narrowly went over the crossbar.
In
the 81st minute, Lynn capped a magnificent performance by setting up
Farm's fourth goal as he attacked Bosna's last defender and cleverly
set up Daniel Giorgetti who finished impressively from 12 yards. It was
the young striker's first goal at first team level for the club. 4 - 0
to Farm.
Farm held their lead to the end of the match and won the game comfortably.
Head Coach Paul Simpson said that players "Showed great strength, character and togetherness" in the big home win.
The
4 - 0 drubbing leapfrogged Farm over Vista into second place on goal
difference - both teams are now 6 points behind Division 2 runaway
leader, Para Hills East.
Final Score: Ingle Farm 4, Bosna 0
ROUND 13
INGLE FARM vs PARA HILLS EAST WALKLEY PARK
SUNDAY, JULY 23rd, 2006
Ingle
Farm significantly improved its promotion chances with a determined 2 -
1 win over top team Para Hills East at Walkley Park today. Farm now
trail East by just three points with five matches remaining in the
season.
Farm lost
in-form Alby Lynn before the match. Unfortunately Lynn's young lad,
Campbell, has been unwell, so Lynn was in the hospital and was
understandably not available for the big match. IFASC wishes the Lynn
family well .. and a speedy recovery for Campbell.
The match started out evenly. The opening 20 minutes saw few chances as
the two midfields battled hard to gain the ascendancy in the fine
conditions.
Para Hills East lost its striker when he limped off injured in the 25th minute with what appeared to be a bad ankle injury.
Both
teams defenses were solid during the opening stanza. Chris Ennis and
Mario Staltari were playing well for Farm, while Gary Aitken was
playing well for East during the opening half.
In
the 33rd minute, Mario Staltari put in a superb cross that found Dave
Ennis who volleyed the ball from 12 yards, which was well saved by
East's keeper.
In the 39th minute,
Para Hills East broke the deadlock. Farm were caught square at the back
as an East striker cleverly slipped the ball beyond Farm keeper, Colin
Smith from 15 yards.
1 - 0 to East.
Halftime: Ingle Farm 0, Para Hills East 1.
After
the break, it began to spit with rain. It seemed like it was no more
than a passing shower, but before you knew it, the rain pelted down
making conditions slippery.
Farm
seemed to have the better of the play early in the second half. Leon
Hannessen, Martin and Fernando Lara came into the match, while Rutter
shrugged off his marker and began causing trouble up front. Farm were
attacking East, while the visitors seemed to want to hold Farm out.
In
the 60th minute Farm were awarded a free kick 22 yards out from goal.
Leon Hannessen's clever free kick was deflected through a crowd of
players and found its way into the corner of the net for Farm. 1 - 1.
Farm
lifted after the goal and began to dominate the game. Anthony Ragazzo
was introduced for the home team, and immediately had an impact in
midfield setting up several chances for the home team.
A
fine Anthony Staltari cross in the 77th minute found David Ennis who
cleverly left the ball for Fernando Lara who brilliantly curled a shot
around East's keeper and into the net. 2 - 1 to Farm.
A
bad Gary Aitken challenge on Lara led to a melee moments later, which
resulted in Aitken receiving a yellow card. Then in the 87th minute
Aitken was sent off for another bad challenge.
Farm easily held out the 10 man visitors in the remaining minutes take the points in the high-standard match.
Farm's pleased head coach Paul Simpson later said "It was a great effort by our players to beat the top team in the league."
The
big win keeps Farm in second place and also closes the gap at the top
of the table to just three points. Next round sees Farm at home to
7th-placed Limnos, while East meets 3rd-placed Vista in a must-win game
for both clubs.
Final Score: Ingle Farm 2, Para Hills East 1
ROUND 14
INGLE FARM vs ADELAIDE LIMNOS WALKLEY PARK
SUNDAY, JULY 30th, 2006
Ingle Farm had an easy win against disappointing Limnos at home today, the final result being a flattering 4 - 0.
The
match began with a Farm goal. Ricky Simpson's accurate 3rd minute
corner found Chris Ennis who bulleted the ball home from 10 yards. 1 -
0.
The match fell into a lull after the goal with both teams quite
prepared to go through the motions, the two teams created few chances
in the next fifteen minutes.
In
the 25th minute, Limnos had a strike on goal that had to be saved by
Farm keeper Colin Smith. The shot was followed up by several attacking
moves from the visitors as Limnos enjoyed 10 minutes of being the
aggressor.
Farm's Anthony Staltari, Leon Hannessen, Marty Lara, Chris Ennis and Colin Smith enjoyed a good first half for the home team.
Half time: Ingle Farm 1, Adelaide Limnos 0.
After
the break, much like the first half, Farm opened with a goal. Fernando
Lara's fine run ended with a perfect cross that found Dave Ennis who
headed home from 7 yards. 2 - 0.
In
the 55th minute Farm's Alby Lynn was substituted on with immediate
effect. Lynn laid the ball off to Ricky Simpson, who volleyed the ball
into the Limnos net from 20 yards. 3 - 0 to Farm.
Dave
Ennis came into the match late in the game with some good play along
the flank. Ricky Simpson was playing well in the midfield and Leon
Hannessen continued to be a central figure in Farm's play. Both
Staltari boys again played well for Farm from start to finish.
A tired looking Torsten Rutter had two good opportunities to extend Farms lead 25 minutes from the end.
Rutter tried to finish his impressive run inside the 18 yard box
himself, whereas unmarked Alby Lynn would have been the better choice
on the far post. Moments later Rutter again opened up Limnos.. only to
be caught in two minds whether to shoot or pass after the earlier error.
Giorgetti
replaced Rutter 20 minutes from the end, the talented youngster missed
out on action last week as his progression to first team football
gathers momentum.
In
the 89th minute, impressive Alby Lynn took on the Limnos defence and
banged home a sensational goal from a tight angle. 4 - 0 to Farm.
A
determined performance from Farm against a below par Limnos. The end
result for Farm was satisfactory, with no injuries or cards being the
positives to come out of the match.
Farm's
head coach Paul Simpson later said "The team played within itself today
and is obviously saving itself for the big clash (versus West Beach)
next week."
Final Score: Ingle Farm 4, Adelaide Limnos 0.
ROUND 15
INGLE FARM vs WEST BEACH WALKLEY PARK
SUNDAY, AUGUST 6th, 2006
Ingle
Farm are storming home with a wet sail this season. Its 1-0 home win
over third-placed West Beach has brought the team level on points with
stuttering Para Hills East, and has now opened up a gap over its other
rivals with three games remaining in the season.
It
was a shaky start from both teams in the sunny conditions at Walkley
Park. Neither team looked particularly good in the early stages of the
game as they battled to hold possession in the fast-paced match.
Farm
soon found its way and began to knock the ball around confidently. Leon
Hannessen, Fernando Lara, Alby Lynn, Chris Ennis and Ricky Simpson were
getting a lot of the ball as Farm attacked and looked the better team.
A
strong run by Anthony Staltari led to Farm's opening goal in the 20th
minute. Staltari found David Ennis who brilliantly crossed for Alby
Lynn to hammer home from close in. 1-0 to Farm.
Farm almost doubled their lead minutes later when a good run by Ricky
Simpson set up Alby Lynn who laid the ball off for Marty Lara to
narrowly shoot just wide of the upright from 20 yards.
Alby
Lynn narrowly missed a sharp chance in front of goal after an
impressive climb by David Ennis on the West Beach goalkeeper in the
28th minute.
West Beach had their first shot on goal in the 40th minute when a tame shot went harmlessly over Colin Smith's crossbar.
Halftime: Ingle Farm 1 West Beach 0.
To
their credit, West Beach lifted after the break. The visitors attacked
with more purpose creating several chances in a fine 20 minute spell.
In the 55th minute Westies best chance fell to their striker who lobbed
the Farm goalkeeper only to unluckily see the ball bounce over the
crossbar.
Farm
steadied after the goal scare. Impressive Anthony and Mario Staltari
remained difficult to pass, while Marty Lara and Leon Hannessen along
with fighting skipper Brendan Altus, kept Beach honest in the engine
room.
Ricky
Simpson enjoyed his best match of the season for the team. The tireless
workhorse ran hard all day for Farm, setting up chances and chasing
back for the team impressively.
Farm
were quite prepared to hold Beach out for the remaining minutes of the
match. Farm defended stoutly, keeping Beach to long range shots as the
desperate visitors threw everything they had at Farm.
Finally
the referee brought the match to an end to the cheers of the home fans.
Word had filtered through on the sidelines of top team Para Hills East
upset by Adelaide Limnos 2-1 .. effectively drawing the two clubs level
on points and goal difference. It would appear the league has yet
another twist in its tail yet.
Farm Head Coach, Paul Simpson later
said "It was a great team performance that leaves us in a strong
position for the Division 2 title."
Final Score: Ingle Farm 1, West Beach 0.
ROUND 16
FULHAM vs INGLE FARM COLLINS RESERVE
SUNDAY, AUGUST 20th, 2006
A
poor first half, coupled with a silly error midway into the second half
cost Ingle Farm three valuable points, as it disappointingly lost 4-2
away at Fulham today.
In
warm, windy conditions, both teams started the match wary of the other.
The two clubs had been in good form prior to this match.
Fulham
had the advantage of a gusty northerly wind during the first half,
however few chances were made in the opening 10 minutes for the home
team.
In
the 15th minute Farm should have taken the lead when a fine cross by
Anthony Ragazzo was not finished by Ricky Simpson from 5 yards as
Fulham's keeper made a sharp save.
The
resulting rebounding attack lead to Fulham's opening goal. The home
team's fast break opened up the visitors as they beat the offside trap
to score with a shot from 12 yards.
1-0 to Fulham.
Farm responded in the 30th minute when Ragazzo again set up Simpson who unluckily hit the crossbar from 18 yards.
Fulham responded with a wave of attacks, their best chance falling to a
player on the far post who missed a glaring opportunity with an open
goal beckoning in the 35th minute.
However
the home team did manufacture a second goal moments later as Farm were
again caught square at the back, allowing the Fulham player to finish
well from a slight angle.
2-0 to Fulham.
Halftime: Fulham 2 Ingle Farm 0.
Farm
brilliantly fought back early in the second half and soon got well on
top. Fulham had suddenly stopped and allowed Farm back into the match.
Substitute
Torsten Rutter was introduced in the 50th minute, and made an immediate
impact up front for Farm, troubling Fulham's ordinary defense.
In
the 52nd minute, Farm were awarded a penalty after a Fulham defender
hand balled in their defensive 18 yard box. Farm's Mario Staltari
stepped up to coolly finish the resulting spot kick. Fulham 2, Ingle
Farm 1.
Farm again hit the crossbar in the 56th minute when the lucky Fulham keeper misjudged a long range shot from 25 yards.
Rutter
then earned Farm a second penalty as his storming run into the Fulham
18 yard box resulted in a careless challenge that brought the Farm
striker down. Mario Staltari again stepped up to smack home the spot
kick. Fulham 2, Ingle Farm 2.
Fulham were on the ropes awaiting
their knockout. The home team had stopped to a walk as Farm had all the
momentum with 25 minutes to play, and a strong breeze at its back.
It
was therefore disappointing for Farm's players and supporters when in a
mad moment, an unnecessary play of the ball in defense resulted in
Fulham recapturing the lead in the 65th minute. Farm watched in horror
as the ridiculous error in judgment allowed a goal bound interception
to swing the game back in favor of the home team. 3-2 to Fulham.
The home team had been thrown a lifeline and further capitalized
minutes later when Farm were caught out while pushing forward in search
of a desperate equalizer as a weak Fulham shot from 16 yards beat Farm
keeper Colin Smith. 4-2 to Fulham.
Farm
had blown it. With no time left to get back into the match, the
remaining minutes were played in fury by the visitors as they
desperately tried to dig up a reply, to no avail.
After
the match, Farm Head Coach Paul Simpson lamented that "Two errors by an
individual cost us dearly today." However with other results seemingly
favoring Farm, the loss is not all doom and gloom.
The
team remains in second place, with 1st-placed East to meet 3rd-placed
West Beach this week. The club will also welcome the return of David
Ennis after family commitments in the Riverland this week.
Final score: Fulham 4, Ingle Farm 2.
ROUND 17
INGLE FARM vs MACEDONIA WALKLEY PARK
SUNDAY, AUGUST 27th, 2006
Ingle
Farm went to the top of Division 2 with an emphatic 5-1 drubbing of
lowly Macedonia Soccer Club today. A win next week, away at Modbury
Vista, would guarantee Ingle Farm to be Division 2 champions for the
first time ever in club history.
Ingle
Farm started this match magnificently. In the 4th minute, an Anthony
Ragazzo cross found Chris Ennis whose goal bound header was flicked
into the net by Torsten Rutter. 1-0.
Three
minutes later Farm were awarded a penalty for a blatant shirt pull by a
Maco defender, however Mario Staltari's resulting spot kick was well
saved by the Maco keeper.
Moments
later Ricky Simpson crossed well to find Mario Staltari who put the
ball in the net for Farm from close range. 2-0 to Farm.
Farm
continued to pepper Maco's goal when Simpson smashed an impressive low
drive from 25 yards that was well kept out by the visiting keeper.
Soon
after, Mario Staltari cleverly combined with Leon Hannessen to
brilliantly get in behind the Maco defense and score from 12 yards to
attone for his earlier miss. 3-0 to Farm.
Simpson then put in another terrific cross in the 23rd minute that
found high-flying Anthony Ragazzo who soared like an eagle to nod the
ball in from 8 yards. 4-0.
Farm took their foot off the pedal after its impressive opening. The
home team continued to dominate possession, however they did not add to
the scoreline.
A
bad pass in the 38th minute allowed Maco's to pull a goal back.
Macedonia to their credit gathered the ball, pushed forward on the
break and scored a fine goal with their only chance of the half. 4-1.
Halftime: Ingle Farm 4, Macedonia 1.
After
the break the home team continued to attack. Farm hit the crossbar in
the 48th minute when Alby Lynn's smart cross found Leon Hannessen whose
header smacked the upright and rebounded away.
Macedonia's
keeper made some outstanding saves to prevent Farm extending its lead
even further. Three times the visiting keeper deflected the ball over
the crossbar to deny the home team. The Maco keeper also managed a
great save to from Staltari's accurate free kick attempt in the 65th
minute.
Torsten
Rutter should have extended Farm's lead in the 73rd minute when he
tried to round the Maco keeper who was alert enough to block the
strikers attempt.
Farm
made a fifth goal when substitute David Ennis fought off a Maco
defender to cleverly set up Fernando Lara, who finished well from 12
yards. 5-1.
Farm
narrowly missed the target in the 82nd minute when substitute Anthony
Martini set up David Ennis on the near post which saw the ball kiss the
outside of the far upright.
Martini then had a great opportunity to extend Farm's lead in the 86th
minute when the journeyman fluffed a pressure shot from 10 yards out.
Farm could have won the match by 10 goals, however it's 5-1 win is more than satisfactory.
Farm
head coach Paul Simpson said with a touch of tongue and cheek "Great
result by the lads this week, and a great game by our goalkeeper."
Simpson added "Next week will be a very hard game (against Modbury
Vista) that could see us win the league."
Final score: Ingle Farm 5, Macedonia 1.
ROUND 18
MODBURY VISTA vs INGLE FARM RICHARDSON RESERVE
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 3rd, 2006
Ingle
Farm fought back from being 1-0 down at half time to emphatically
defeat Modbury Vista 8-1 as Farm were crowned Division 2 Champions for
the first time in the club's history.
The
astonishing 8-1 victory over its local rivals prompted celebrations
long into the night at the Farm. The club sang and danced till the wee
hours as the fruits of a long hard season were reaped in magnificent
fashion.
However it wasn't all smooth sailing for Farm against Vista at Wynn Vale.
After
a nervous opening, Vista took the lead after 30 minutes in
controversial circumstances. The ball was cut back from the by-line to
another Vista player who smacked the ball into the net from five yards.
Farm's defenders pleaded with the linesman to flag the ball out,
however Farm's protests were waved away. 1-0 to Vista.
Marty
Lara, Mario Staltari, Chris Ennis, Leon Hannessen, Colin Smith and
Anthony Staltari were all playing well for Farm during the first half,
however the visitors were unable to pull a goal back before the break
as Vista held their lead until half time.
Halftime: Modbury Vista 1 Farm 0.
Coach
Paul Simpson made a tactical change at half time bringing on another
striker for a midfielder as unlucky Anthony Ragazzo was substituted for
Alby Lynn.
In
the 55th minute Farm were awarded a free kick 25 yards out from goal.
After several squandered opportunities during the first half from free
kicks, big Chris Ennis stepped up to take the kick. Ennis impressively
drove the ball into the bottom corner of the net for Farm that sent the pensive green and white army into rapture. 1-1.
In the 60th minute Farm's Torsten Rutter went on a crusading run when
he broke away from Vista's defence before being brought down with just
the keeper to beat. The Vista defender was shown a straight red card
for his efforts.
Two minutes later, the green and white army went
wild as Farm took the lead. Good work from Alby Lynn set up Rutter who
laid the ball off for David Ennis who scored from 10 yards. 2-1 to
Farm.
Farm
were now well on top. Three minutes later evergreen midfielder Ricky
Simpson made a determined solo run past a defender then cut the ball
back brilliantly to find well positioned Fernando Lara who made no
mistake from 5 yards. 3-1 to Farm. The green and white army were now in
hysterics on the far side of the pitch.
Simpson
then set up the 4th in the 70th minute when his accurate corner kick
found Alby Lynn who headed home from close range. 4-1 to Farm.
Vista
were shell shocked. Relentless Farm refused to stop attacking. Under
pressure the Vista keeper accepted a pass back from its defender
minutes later, Farm awarded an indirect free kick just metres out. The
resulting rebound lead to Alby Lynn knocking in his second for the
half. 5-1 to Farm.
In
a nice moment during the game, injured club captain Brendan Altus was
substituted on for outstanding midfielder Leon Hannessen. Seasoned Farm
player Anthony Martini was also brought on for equally impressive
Fernando Lara.
In
the 82nd minute Torsten Rutter finally got the goal he deserved. The
striker shook off two defenders to be one-on-one with the keeper and
finish impressively from 14 yards. 6-1.
In
the 84th minute Altus made an immediate impact as his 20 yard shot was
deflected into the net by Torsten Rutter for the strikers second goal
in three minutes. 7-1.
Outgoing
Farm keeper Colin Smith, playing in his last match for the first team,
then capped off a fine career with one final outstanding save to deny
Vista a goal from a free kick as he flicked the ball over the crossbar.
Alby
Lynn then rubbed more salt into Vista's wounds by cheekily lobbing the
ball over the Vista keeper in the 89th minute. Lynn's goal gave the big
striker a second half hat trick as he dominated the forward lines after
being brought on at half time. 8-1 to Farm!!
The
referee blew the final whistle to bring the match to a close, which
prompted celebrations on the park. Players, supporters, coaches and
support staff embraced before pulling together for a bellowing
rendition of "The Farm Go Marching In," under a shower of champagne in
the middle of the pitch.
Congratulations
to Farm coaches Paul Simpson and Alan Leadbeater on another wonderful
season at the club. The players, you guys are a terrific bunch of lads
and you deserve the success after the effort you all put in during the
season. Job well done. You will all go down in Farm folklore as
inaugural winners of Division 2 for the club.
Proud
Farm Head Coach Paul Simpson said after the match "To all the players
at the club, you get what you put in." Simpson also wanted to thank his
support staff, Ron Sparks, Pop Newton, Ted Beck, Paul Lenny and Robbie
Paterson. He also wished to thank linesman Sean O'Hara, George Mulvaney
and Glen Cawthorne for their assistance during the year.
