ROUND 1
INGLE FARM vs SAN MARCO
NEWTON SPORTS FIELD
SUNDAY, APRIL 4, 2004
Ingle
Farm travelled to Newton Sports Field in the opening round of the SAASL
Division 3 league, the opposition being a talented San Marco outfit.
Ingle
Farm opened the scoring 20 minutes in the first half with a well taken
goal which ignited the Farm's large travelling army of supporters.
San Marco were not going to lay down without a fight and a good move saw the home team equalize 10 minutes later.
At half time the game was in the balance at 1 - 1.
After
a half time rev up from coach Paul Simpson, Ingle Farm came out firing
in the second half, scoring a quickfire 3 goals in a brilliant 20
minute period.
In
a comical moment, 5 minutes from the end of the match, the sprinklers
came on, resulting in the game being held up for 5 minutes.
When
order was restored, a lack of concentration at the death resulted in
Ingle Farm conceding a soft goal, which made the end result 4 - 2 to
the Farm.
ROUND 2
INGLE FARM vs ADELAIDE LIMNOS
WALKLEY PARK
SUNDAY, APRIL 18, 2004
Ingle
Farm's first home game of the season was nothing short of a whitewash
against an Adelaide Limnos side which had been weakened by the
departure of several key players from last season.
Interestingly
enough, there was no goal scored in the first 20 minutes of the game,
thereafter it seemed every two minutes Farm scored a goal.
You had to feel sorry for the Limnos keeper who actually did not play that bad.
The game was very one sided, finishing 13 - 0 to the home team.
ROUND 4
INGLE FARM vs ADELAIDE PUMAS
WALKLEY PARK
SUNDAY, MAY 9, 2004
Two
of the leagues contenders for the Division 3 Championship, Ingle Farm
and Adelaide Pumas met for the first time at Walkleys Park, home of
Ingle Farm. This was to be Ingle Farm's first match for three weeks due
to the bye then the forfeit of ISC Raptors in the 1st round of the cup.
The
pressure of the fixture blew up in the first half, when in a heated
moment of madness, an Adelaide Pumas player was red carded for an ugly
incident during play.
This
did not deter the 10 manned visitors when Adelaide Pumas stole the lead
in the 43rd minute to take a shock 1 - 0 lead at half time.
Things
did not improve in the second half for Ingle Farm. The 10 men scored a
second goal through a quick break from one end of the field to the
other, leading to a penalty and Ingle Farm's keeper being sent off.
In
the last 5 minutes of the match, further salt was rubbed into the
wounds of the Ingle Farm players and supporters when the visitors
scored a good goal to put the result beyond doubt.
The final result being a disappointing 0 - 3 for the home team.
ROUND 5
SOUTH COAST vs INGLE FARM
HACKHAM WEST
SUNDAY, MAY 16, 2004
Ingle Farm made the long journey down to Hackham where they met South Coast who were sitting 5th in the league after 4 games.
Ingle Farm started well scoring a goal 15 minutes into the first half after a good build up through the midfield.
South Coast replied 5 minutes later with a well constructed goal to make the scores level again at 1 - 1.
This
seemed to spark Ingle Farm into action as they dominated the next 20
minutes of play scoring three goals in the process. The score was then
4 - 1.
Dissappointingly
for Ingle Farm, a goal was scored for South Coast directly from the
kick off when the Ingle Farm stand-in keeper, Lee Perkins was caught
napping off his line from the restart.
At half time the score was 4 - 2 to the visitors.
Ingle
Farm seemed content with their lead in the second half until a well
worked goal was created through some determined running from Graham
Elrick which extended Farm's lead to 5 - 2.
With 15 minutes remaining in the match, South Coast pulled a goal back with a soft goal conceded by Ingle Farm's defence.
The end result being 5 - 3 to the Farm, a good result in a difficult fixture away from home.
ROUND 6
ELIZABETH GROVE vs INGLE FARM
ELIABETH NORTH
SUNDAY, MAY 23, 2004
Ingle
Farm, sitting 2nd in the league before this fixture, visited Elizabeth
Grove who were struggling down the table in 8th position.
The opening minutes were a real arm wrestle, as both midfields tried to get on top of each other early.
After
10 minutes, Grove opened the scoring when a fantastic shot from the
midfield gave Ingle Farm keeper Colin Smith little chance. 1 - 0 to the
home team.
Ingle
Farm's midfield soon got on top and began to create chances. Grove's
keeper frustrated the visitors with some great saves, as Farm pushed
for the equalizer.
In
the 35th minute, Farm did equalize with a well taken goal when Torsten
Rutter beat the offside trap and cooly finished. 1 - 1.
Just
before half time, Farm's large group of travelling supporters bellowed
their approval, as an excellent goal was scored to snatch the lead from
the home team.
At half time the score was 2 - 1 to the Farm.
After the break Farm dominated the game continually pressing, yet squandering golden opportunities in front of goal.
The
reward finally came in the 75th minute when Farm put the game out of
reach with a well taken goal after a buildup down the flank.
Final result was 3 - 1 to the Farm, frustrating day, great result.
ROUND 7
NORTHERN REDBACKS vs INGLE FARM
ELIZABETH NORTH
SUNDAY, JUNE 6, 2004
Ingle
Farm (2nd) again travelled to Elizabeth North where the opposition was
Northern Redbacks who were sitting in 7th position before this fixture.
Ingle Farm soon got on top in this match with some accurate passes and good run on play.
In
the 10th minute Farm took the lead when good work along the line
resulted in a great shot which left the Redbacks keeper with little
chance.
This seemed to rattle the Redbacks, whose gameplan looked in tatters early in the match.
Farm created many opportunities during the rest of the first half, but it squandered several great openings.
Half time saw the score at 1 - 0 to the Farm.
After the break, Ingle Farm began well but were soon to fall into a hole.
Frustrated at missing opportunities, they let the Redbacks back into the game.
Redbacks fought back and began to create chances of their own.
With
5 minutes left in the match, Redbacks drew level, stunning Ingle farm
who had been battling themselves for the majority of the second half.
With no time left to score a winner, the visitors had to be content with a draw.
Final result was 1- 1.
ROUND 8
INGLE FARM vs PAYNEHAM
WALKLEY PARK
SUNDAY, JUNE 20, 2004
On
this cold afternoon, Ingle Farm were visited by Payneham who before
this fixture were sitting 3rd in the league, just below Ingle Farm who
were sitting 2nd.
The opening minutes saw the home team's midfield get on top and create early openings for the strikers.
In
the 25th minute some outstanding play through the midfield resulted in
an exciting goal for the home team. The goal sent the shiverring home
supporters into rapture, roaring their delight of the early strike. 1 -
0 to Ingle Farm.
Ingle
Farm continued their attacking pressure on the visitors after the goal
- Payneham were under the pump, and players began arguing with the
referee and being booked.
However,
Farm were not to be put off their gameplan and continued to attack. A
great run into the 18 yard box saw an Ingle Farm player felled, and a
penalty given.
The penalty was taken well, and the home team had the game by the scruff of the neck at 2 - 0.
At half time the score was Ingle Farm 2 Payneham 0.
It
was dissappointing for all supporters and players when after half time
the referee was forced to abandon the match due to the unruly behavior
of Payneham's coach.
Ingle
Farm Amateur Soccer Club appologises to all its supporters who came
down to support the team, and the club appreciates your continued
support at home matches.
THIS FIXTURE WAS AWARDED TO INGLE FARM 2 - 0
ROUND 9
MODBURY JETS vs INGLE FARM
MODBURY
SUNDAY, JUNE 27, 2004
On
a cold, windy afternoon, Ingle Farm (2nd) travelled the short distance
up Milne Road to Modbury Heights, where they met Modbury Jets (5th) in
a North Eastern local derby.
On
the waterlogged, heavy pitch, Ingle Farm were able to create numerous
chances early, but failed to capitalize on several clear cut openings.
Jets
punished the visitors for its poor finishing when an Ingle Farm player
was adjudged to have fouled a Modbury Jets player inside the 18 yard
box in the 33rd minute. Penalty!
The spot kick was well taken and the home team had the early advantage, 1 - 0 to Modbury Jets.
Farm, who had the majority of the play during the first half, replied
swiftly 5 minutes later when their striker beat a dubious offside trap
to bring the game level with a sound finish. 1 - 1.
Despite Farm missing yet another glaring opportunity just before the break, the half time the score remained at 1 - 1.
Coach
Paul Simpson focussed the players at half time, and the team talk had
the desired effect as Farm came out firing, dominating the midfield and
giving the home team no space to work with.
In
the 74th minute, Torsten Rutter bedazzled the Jets defence and put in a
shot that wrong-footed everyone and found the back of the net. This
gave the visitors the lead for the first time in the match. 2 - 1 to
Ingle Farm.
Minutes
later, Farm put the game out of reach of the home team. A great build
up led to a thumping finish from Ricky Simpson, sending Ingle Farm's
large travelling army into hysterics. 3 - 1 to Ingle Farm.
Farm seemed content with their lead after this goal and held out the Jets for the remaining minutes of the match comfortably.
A terrific result for the club over their local rivals at Modbury.
Final result Modbury Jets 1 Ingle Farm 3
ROUND 10
INGLE FARM vs SAN MARCO
WALKLEY PARK
SUNDAY, JULY 4, 2004
The
first return fixture of the season saw Ingle Farm (2nd) visited by San
Marco (3rd) in a season defining fixture for the chase of the Division
3 2004 championship.
Kicking
with the wind in the first half, San Marco opened smartly. Their
strikers narrowly missed chances on goal as the home team were on the
back foot.
San
Marco's pressure paid off in the 32nd minute when a high floating ball
into the 18yd box fooled everybody and found its way into Farm's net.
1- 0 to the visitors.
Ingle
Farm pushed for an equalizer late in the half with some attacking
pressure and were unlucky not to pull one back before the break.
Half time Ingle Farm 0 San Marco 1
They
tell me Alan Leadbeater "shook the rafters" with his address to the
Ingle Farm players at half time. Although later investigations revealed
no stuctural damage had been done to the IFASC clubrooms, a rocket had
been put up the players via the coaching staff at half time.
Farm
in the 2nd half had the advantage of kicking with a gusty wind. The
home team dominated the play after the restart, San Marco were
struggling into the teeth of the wind.
In
the 68th minute, a clever touch in front of goal by Chris Ennis lead to
Farm's equalizer as the ball was smashed into the back of the net from
close range. 1 - 1.
Minutes
later, Ingle Farm hit the lead when another great strike left the San
Marco keeper with little chance. 2 - 1 to the Farm.
A
late break from Ingle Farm at the death saw a terrific run ended by a
San Marco defender who deliberately tripped the Ingle Farm player in
the 18yd box. The San Marco player was red carded and a penalty awarded
to the home team.
The penalty was put away well for Farm. Soon after the final whistle sounded with the result 3 - 1 to Ingle Farm..
An excellent result showing great character in a tough day for the Farm.
ROUND 11
ADELAIDE LIMNOS vs INGLE FARM
ST CLAIRE OVAL
SUNDAY, JULY 18, 2004
Ingle
Farm (2nd) travelled to St Claire Oval at Woodville where they were to
be challenged by Adelaide Limnos (9th) on a lovely flat pitch in cool
conditions.
Farm
opened sharply, immediately seizing control of the midfield and
creating chances up front. Farm dominated everywhere as Limnos
struggled to stay with their opponents.
The
persistant forward pressure paid dividends for Farm in the 29th minute
when a good cross was headed onto the crossbar and the rebound was
smashed in at close range. 1 - 0 to the Farm.
Ingle
Farm's second goal came 10 minutes later when an excellent free kick
outside the box was driven home comprehensively giving the Limnos
keeper no chance. 2 - 0.
Half Time Ingle Farm 2 Adelaide Limnos 0.
Ingle
Farm opened slowly in the second half. A dull 15 minute period of
scrappy soccer followed the break as both teams struggled to create
openings.
In the
69th minute, Ingle Farm went three up when a great pass found a player
in the box who smartly placed the ball in the back of the net. 3 - 0.
As
the game opened up, Ingle Farm created a 4th goal 7 minutes later when
another good cross was well headed into the bar again and the rebound
hammered home from close range. 4 - 0.
To
their credit Limnos did not give up and a run into the box saw them
rewarded with a penalty with 10 minutes remaining in the match. The
penalty was well put away 4 - 1.
Farm were unlucky not to knock in a couple more goals late in the match before the well mannered game came to a close.
Final Score : Ingle Farm 4 - Adelaide Limnos 1
ROUND 13
ADELAIDE PUMAS vs INGLE FARM
THOMAS TURNER RESERVE
SUNDAY, AUGUST 1, 2004
Ingle
Farm (2nd) visited Adelaide Pumas (1st) at Thomas Turner Reserve Valley
View in wet sloppy conditions. This match was a real division shaper as
the two stand out 3rd Division teams met for the final time this season.
Farm
started well and were unlucky not to take the lead after 20 minutes
when the ball was scrambled onto the upright and then rebounded accross
the face of goal.
In
the 28th minute Ingle Farm opened the scoring when a good through ball
found Michael Bell who placed the ball in the back of the net. 1 - 0 to
the Farm.
Moments later Farm extended their lead when a high ball was not dealt with and Chris Ennis headed the ball home. 2 - 0.
But Ingle Farm let Pumas back in the match. With their tails up, Farm
pushed up the ground looking for a third goal, and when the opportunity
came, Pumas seized it. Pumas plundered forward on the break, and a high
quality move resulted in a sound finish. 2 - 1.
A
free kick outside the 18yd box was awarded to Pumas with 3 minutes
remaining in the first half. The shot found the top corner of the net
and the teams were back level at 2 - 2.
After
the break, Pumas controversially took the lead. The referee ignored the
linesman's offside flag resulting in the Pumas striker being 1 on 1
with the Ingle Farm keeper. The ball was tucked away... 3 - 2 to the
Pumas.
But Ingle
Farm were not going to be denied. The defence held out all Pumas could
throw and Ingle Farm strikers saw more of the ball as the visitors
lifted.
The
attacking pressure paid off for Ingle Farm when they were awarded a
penalty for a silly "tackle from behind" in the 6yd box. The penalty
was well dispatched and the teams were again level. 3 - 3.
In the final 10 minutes of the game Ingle Farm pushed for the winner.
With the Pumas keeper stranded on the 18yd box line after a poor
clearance, Alby Lynn tried an amazing shot from 40 yds out and was very
unlucky not to score when the ball smacked the face of the crossbar and
then rebounded into the keeper's arms.
In
the heavy conditions, both teams played very well, it was an
entertaining game that went right to the death. 3 - 3 was a fair final
result.
Special mention to the Farm's shivering travelling army who braved shocking conditions all day to watch their team.
ROUND 14
INGLE FARM vs SOUTH COAST
WALKLEY PARK
SUNDAY, AUGUST 85, 2004
Ingle
Farm scored a late winner to defeat South Coast at Walkleys Park to put
itself in prime position for the Division 3 2004 Championship.
The
game was in the balance at 1 - 1 until when in the 88th minute the home
team grabbed an emphatic winner to clinch the points and send it three
points clear at the top of the league.
On
a soft pitch, the match opened with Farm well on top. The home team
were all over their opponents with South Coast struggling to find the
ball.
In the 9th minute Farm assumed the lead after some stong defending lead to a neat midfield build up and concise finish. 1 - 0.
The home team dominated the first half hour creating chance after chance but frustratingly failed to capitalize.
Just
before half time South Coast made the home team pay for its
innaccuracey. A South Coast player weaved his way past two Farm players
and beat the keeper from 10 yards out. 1 - 1.
The
second half saw the game in the balance as both teams created openings.
Legs were getting tired on the muddy pitch as errors crept in to the
match.
With the
visitors appearing content with a draw, Farm were frustrated in front
of goal as South Coast seemed to blanket their defence.
Although
frustrating to watch, the home team never gave up and were finally
rewarded in the 88th minute when a floating ball into the 18 yard box
was flicked past the South Coast keeper delighting the home players and
supporters.
The only question at the end was whether it was Staltari's free kick, or Andy Lynn's "touch" that sent the ball into the net?
Final score Ingle Farm 2, South Coast 1.
ROUND 15
INGLE FARM vs ELIZABETH GROVE
WALKLEY PARK
SUNDAY, AUGUST 22, 2004
Ingle Farm went a step closer to 2004 success with a 6 - 0 drubbing of struggling Elizabeth Grove at Walkley Park.
On a warm afternoon and bumpy hard pitch conditions wern't easy as both teams struggled to find touch in the opening half hour.
In
the 35th minute the home team took the lead when a shot could only be
parried by the Grove keeper and the rebound was swiftly knocked in.
Soon after Farm doubled its lead when again a shot was not dealt with and the rebound was pounced on and tucked away.
Half Time Ingle Farm 2 Elizabeth Grove 0
A third goal came just after the break when a good run into the 18 yard was followed by a belting shot. 3 - 0.
The
fourth goal was a magnificent strike from outside 18, the fifth a great
cross then shot and the final goal resulted from a cheeky run in on
goal which was beautifully tucked away close in.
The win left Ingle Farm on top of the table with a three point lead and 4 goal advantage over its nearest rival.
ROUND 16
INGLE FARM vs NORTHERN REDBACKS
WALKLEY PARK
SUNDAY, AUGUST 29, 2004
Ingle
Farm inflicted a 6 - 0 drubbing of lowly Northern Redbacks at Walkleys
Park to leave the team just one win away from winning the Division 3
Championship.
A win next week - away at Payneham - will see Ingle Farm win the league for the first time in 12 years.
This
game began in cool, cloudy conditions and Ingle Farm almost immediately
hit the lead. A good move between several Farm players set up Ennis in
front of goal whose neat work found the back of the net. 1 - 0.
The second half brought about a change in weather as heavy rain teamed down making conditions difficult.
Ingle
Farm increased their lead early in second half when Martini turned his
Redbacks defender and placed the ball in the corner of the net from the
18yd box line. 2 - 0.
Minutes
later a great cross from Simpson found the feet of Elrick who hammered
the ball into the top of the net from 8 yds out. 3 - 0.
Green
haired Andy Lynn was substituted on - with immediate effect - getting
on the end of a corner to increase the margin to 4 - 0.
Chris
Ennis showed his class when from 40 yards out he lobbed the keeper, who
was caught well off his line, to extend Farms lead to 5 - 0.
With
minutes remaining, Andy Lynn turned his defender, shut his eyes, and
cracked in a glorious goal to make the final result a formidable 6 - 0
for the home team.
B TEAM REPORT
Special mention this week must go to Ingle Farm B Team, who this week achieved two milestones.
With 2 rounds still remaining the team yesterday won the Division 3
Reserves Championship. Remarkably the team has still conceded just one
goal all season - which looks like being a club record. Well done lads
Also this week, the B team won their fixture against Redbacks 17 - 0,
which eclipses the club record 13 - 0 set by the first team earlier
this year against Limnos.
There has been some outstanding performances from this team:
Dave Howell - Led the team brilliantly all year, main reason for outstanding defence and development of younger players in defence.
Lee Perkins - Has been outstanding in midfield all season, defies his age. Helped to guide team this year.
Ben Lambert -
Good club man. Added more to his game each week. Very consitent. Plays
with heart on sleave. Did job every week, another reason for strong
defence.
Sean Robertson -
Has developed very quickly, had a stellar first half of the season
before tragically struck down with injury. Player of the future.
Daniel Ryall - Consistent, good skills, forced his way into the 1st team squad. Still young, another one for the future.
Jason Walker - Team Captain, had solid season. Team player. Good skills. Consistent performer.
Darren Bancroft - Will we ever hear the end of his "I got 6 goals in a game," story ?? Defies age, consistant, good skills, excellent club man.
Abraham Martini - Lazy, showing signs of age, still can put a ball in the net. Good second half of the season.
Jason Cook - Has come on this year, good skills, fantastic at Netball on Sunday nights.
Adrian Plowman -
Another netballer, has had limited chances in 2004 due to Cat duties.
Confident, consistant, needs to develop his soccer game next year.
Excellent in goal in crunch game against South Coast
Evan McNamara - Was great in goal first half of the year, sorry to see him go.
Duy Tran (Huey) -
Filled in when required back in B's. Never complained or let his game
drop. Consistent all year, always good skill and speed. Always finds
his man with the ball.
ROUND 17
PAYNEHAM vs INGLE FARM
PAYNEHAM
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 5, 2004
Ingle Farm visited Payneham on a warm afternoon and needed to win this game to win the league.
Ingle Farm took the lead in the 20th minute when Altus cleverly found Simpson who nailed home yet another goal from close range.
In
the 35th minute Simpson again found the target when a terrific shot
left the Payneham keeper with no chance. 2 - 0 to the Farm.
After the break, Farm held strong and defended their lead stoutly.
As the final whistle blew and the team got together in the middle of the pitch and bellowed the club song.
Back at the club after the game was interesting.
We had Zorro's rendition of "We are the Champions," courtesy of his car stereo;
The players were playing games. They found it funny when they cracked
the top of each others beer bottle, and when the beer fizzed up out of
the bottle then the crackee must then scull that beer - punishment for
letting your defences down;
We had snake whipping contests. Get the snake for 70 cents at the bar
and use it as a weapon of mass destruction on the unsuspecting patron.
Zorro could not stop giggling, Vinnie was limping.
Zorro got dacked by Vinnie for giggling so much. First time I have seen
a mushroom growing in the middle of the carpet in the club mind you.
We had singing, boy did we have singing, Andy Lynn was in full voice,
Squiddy was on lead vocals. Notably Simmo was still receiving the
players rendition of the club song on his answering machine well after
midnight.
I
could have sworn I saw three white bottoms running down toward the
pitch at some stage during the night... pretty dissappointing all our
"studs" of the first team chickened out (Yes you Trevor, Graham,
Squiddy, Barry, Sandy.) Well done Brando.
The
champagne was cracked open and everyone got soaked. Scotty was still
whinging that the B's didnt get any Champagne from the week previous.
Kingy
was trying to tell the current first teamers that his 1992 Div 3
winning side was better than the current mob we got. That went on for
ages, I think it touched a nerve with Squiddy. It was the great debate.
There is always "opinion" around a soccer club.
Oh yeh it was all happening, what a laugh, a night to be remembered and hopefully experienced again soon.
Congratulations to Paul Simpson on a marvellous season. Always the professional, his player management is outstanding.
Congratulations also to Alan Leadbeater, had a difficult job coming in
to a new position this season and did it admirably, good on you Leggy!!!
To
all the players, your committment all season has been outstanding, to
see 20 - 30 boys training twice a week is most encouraging. Magnificent
effort by all players, I cannot remember seeing a tighter bunch of
blokes playing soccer on and off the field.
ROUND 18
INGLE FARM vs MODBURY JETS
WALKLEY PARK
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 2004
Ingle
Farm's final match of the season was against Modbury Jets at home. The
Jets after a disappointing season had showed some late form with
several good results before this fixture.
In
overcast conditions the game opened with Modbury Jets prepared to
attack. The visitors got on top in the midfield and created the more
chances early in the match.
After 15 minutes the Jets took the lead when a good move was completed with a low drive. 1 - 0 to the Jets.
The Jets held their lead until the half time break.
After the break, down came the rain, it poured.
The weather however did not distract the home team whom were determined to finish the season on a high.
A strong run into the Jets 18 yd box saw an Ingle Farm player felled and penalty awarded.
Ricky Simpson put the ball away for the Farm from the spot and Ingle Farm were back in the match. 1 - 1.
Desperation at the end for Farm could not bring the winner in the now sloppy conditions.
Final Score: Ingle Farm 1 Modbury Jets 1
